Talks and Presentations

We have occasional Talks and Presentations made in our clubhouse. These are either by members themselves, or by outside speakers.

As members of Hollowshore Cruising Club, we are also often invited to attend the Cruising Association Kent Section “Winter Warmers” series of talks which take place at the Dog and Bear in Lenham. News of these talks is provided in our regular email members newsletters.

Previous Talks in the Clubhouse:

Border Force Talk:  Fiona Craven and a colleague were to give a talk on the Border Force at the clubhouse immediately after lunch on Sunday April 5. The presentation usually lasts about an hour or so with questions, and there is no charge. Border Force is a law enforcement command within the Home Office, and aims to secure the UK border by carrying out immigration and customs controls for people and goods entering the UK. – This event was cancelled due to lockdown!

FIRST-AID Nov 2019

Alan Hoile’s  First-Aid talk and demonstration, followed by a meal, went down well at the clubhouse. Thanks go to Chris Lovering and Mark Sanders for organising it. There is a possibility Alan might be able to arrange a RYA first-aid course at the clubhouse for six to eight members next year.  No details yet, but watch this space.

SATURDAY October 19, 2019: We were delighted to announce that yachting writer and journalist Duncan Wells, author of the Stress Free Sailing book and several instructional videos, gave a talk at the clubhouse on Saturday October 19 at 7.30pm.

January 19, 2019, member Alan Thorne showed a film and also gave a talk on “Boat Building Experience”, his latest community project in Faversham. Members are welcome to bring guests.

Says Alan: “Continuing from our success with Boat Camp for children and several boat-building schemes with adults, Boat Building Experience is a new, exciting adventure where pairs of adults or children work with me to create Joansa, a beautiful skiff designed by John Welsford.” The evening starts at 7pm but will not include a meal.

January 26 2019: A Fish and Chip Supper at 7pm where guest speaker was Trustee Paul Smedley (who also hosts club boats at Conyer in August).
